Mary Kingsley did what proper young ladies in 1893 did not usually do? She traveled alone from England to West Africa, then a mysterious place that most people from England knew little about. This book describes her life, from an unhappy childhood to the fulfillment of her dreams as she became an African explorer at the age of 30.
